Rallying to Save ORBlogs

Update: There’s plenty of activity going on: see Rick’s latest update (with an update from Bausch himself), plus this from Mettadore. Looks like we’re pulling together an informal meeting today at Beer & Blog at Green Dragon for those who can attend. Finally, Rick’s also birddogging this, so follow his Twitterstream and/or the SF blog for updates. Go, team!

There are a few of us who apparently can’t take the news of the announced demise of ORblogs quietly. And it totally ruined what was supposed to be a quiet, mellow evening for me, no less.

See, my kids left tonight to spend the night with their father, before heading overseas for a 10-day trip to Israel. And as any single-parent-who-has-the-kids-a-LOT would have done, I escaped the house, oh, five minutes after they left with Dad to head out for a kid-free dinner.

Sadly, I cannot seem to leave my iPhone alone—and Dove Vivi didn’t help matters any by making it impossible to read the hardcopy O’s I brought along to keep myself company (sidenote: Best. Pizza. Slice. Ever: The roasted corn with caramelized onions on that fabulous cornmeal crust. Or maybe a slice of the pesto with spinach. You decide.)

So I caught and responded to the email from Bojack suggesting that we do something. Jumped in the Twitter stream to help egg on people like @turoczy and @ahockley and @oregoniansteve (who’s now taking this to TPTB at The O) and @jbancroft and others wanting to jump in here to help turn the ship around. Cheered on Rick Turoczy at Silicon Florist as he sounded the trumpets on this post: Can ORBlogs be saved? (please jump over there and add your two cents, will you?)

And I kept the fires burning through an after-dinner Mai Tai at Thatch, no less. (”School night” be damned - I’m kid-free and am entitled to a brief celebration, no?)

Now, I’m home, and the iPhone is recharging (yes, I burned through the battery.) And I’m throwing this out to all of you.

What can you do to help save ORblogs? What are you willing to commit to? Or are the glory days gone and not worth reclaiming/resuscitating?

Head on over to Rick’s post and weigh in. Or jump into this FriendFeed room.

Let’s put the power of The Internets to do some good here, shall we?

  3. [...] There’s an effort afoot to keep ORBlogs around.  It’s not a lack of web bandwidth that may bring ORBlogs to an end, it’s a lack of human bandwidth.  I’m not sure what I can do to help, but I’ll raise my hand and hope I can do something.  I hope we can keep it around in some form or other.
