The perfect weekend

I’m winding down from a perfect holiday weekend.

What did I do? Nothing spectacular, actually. Skipped the Blues Festival. Passed on the fireworks.

Was I anti-social? Not hardly - managed to drop by to see a friend recovering from surgery. Had pie with another friend. Dropped by an open house, saw a show at the Aladdin. Ran into people I knew at the farmer’s market, the grocery store, or just out and about.

In the ‘make a list and check it twice’ category, I mowed the lawn. Washed the car (including shampooing the seats!) Did several loads of laundry. Made freezer jam with the boatloads of berries I got at the farmer’s market.

But I also slept in three days in a row. Took myself out for a late breakfast at my favorite place after mowing the lawn. Took a laundry break at my local wine bar for their Sunday afternoon tasting. And did what I could to intersperse work and play, social time and private time - all weekend long.

Now, I’m relaxing over a perfect summertime drink (gin & tonic.) Shoo-ing one child into the shower, moving the blueberries out of reach for the night. And once this post is done? It’s back out onto the front porch to watch the night settle in around us all.

Life is good in Portland, Oregon as the long holiday weekend draws to a close…
