Oh, yeah - Blazers draft day today!
(Update: corrected to point to right Mercury link…)
I haven’t been reading the newspaper. Don’t much listen to the radio any more when I’m in the car. And my unread RSS feeds have mushroomed out of control.
However, I unexpectedly ended up spending lots of time in my car today, and didn’t have my usual sound source with me (long story, don’t ask.) Instead, I was stuck with a car stereo that doesn’t even have pre-programmed stations configured yet.
Which explains why I was listening avidly to the new 95.5 all sports station earlier today. See, today is NBA draft day! And you can hear hours and hours and hours of speculation about who might be going where; or what maverick wheeler-dealer Blazer GM Kevin Pritchard might have up his sleeve this year.
They’ll be broadcasting live from the Rose Garden from 4-8 pm today, with all the draft news & updates. And if I can find a streaming access point and borrow a pair of headphones from a colleague, well - I’ll be there for the first hour or so.
In the meantime, I can tell you this: James Jones has declined to extend his contract. Ron Artest may or may not have been traded. The Blazers may be angling to grab the third pick. And if you want up-to-the-minute snark + insight but don’t have access to a radio? You should be following this blog post (complete with live updates after 4 pm) over at the Portland Mercury’s BlogTown. (Last season, Ezra Caraeff was my go-to guy when I wanted to follow a game from, say, a local watering hole with WiFi, but without television. Thanks, Ezra!)
